Sonja Chung

I have obtained my Bachelor of the Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Dance at Rutgers University. I have received several Academic Scholarships, including the CARR scholarship, University DanceWorks Scholarship, and the Sheila P Lancing Scholarship, based on merit. Movement is my life; Modern dance, Ballet, improvisation, and even Gymnastics. Presently, I am a Muller Dancer with the Jennifer Muller/ The Works dance company, in Chelsea Manhattan.

Since Graduating Rutgers, I have encountered a whirlwind of opportunities, as I set out to begin my career in New York. I was honored to have been invited to perform with The Jennifer Muller/ The Works dance company for their New York Spring Season, entitled "Monte Buglisi Muller LIVE". In addition to The Works season, I was also invited to perform in The Works Gala; both perfomances took place at New York Live Arts (http://newyorklivearts.org/event/monte_buglisi_muller).

My most recent performance project work was DonmuÅŸ Rüya,  an Immersive Dance Theater Project in Santralİstanbul Istanbul, Turkey. While in, Turkey I performed at Santralİstanbul's renowned Energy museum, the SilahtaraÄŸa Elektrik Santral

Moreover, Fashion is another passion of mine, which has proven fruitful since my graduation. I was honored to perform choreography by Luam Keflezgy in the Moncler Grenoble New York Fashion Week Flash Mob. I have also, walked in New York Fashion Week for The Vessel. By Lois, in addition to other opportunities.

My most recent Fashion project was as the muse of photographer Philippe Paschkes for his limited edition fine art photography charity book entitled Africa,http://www.prweb.com/releases/2013/9/prweb11121331.htm.

My collective experience in Fashion and Dance informed my latest choreographic work, entitled "Connected Through Memory, We all Bleed Blood," which highlighted materiality and spirituality as irrevocable aspects of human life.

As for my individual artistic motives, what moves me to perform, what excites me: is the feeling of touching the Hearts of People, even from Miles away. Touching the Stage, grants me the privilege of sharing in  the Honesty of Human Expression. Through out my life, I’ve learned that through Performance, the Rawness of Human Experience Connects, Heals, and Loves in a way, unmatched by words. Why write this Summary? Well, I believe artists are here to Save Lives, I believe I am Here to Save Lives.

"I see the Artist as the «enigmatic» Force of Change, the Activist, the Catalyst, the Superhero."
